Governor Locke signed Senate Bill 6593 into law April 1st, 2004 requiring all cities in the state of Washington to allow manufactured homes as of July 1st, 2005. While most of the larger cities in the state such as Seattle, Everett and Bellevue have allowed manufactured homes to be placed within their city limits for quite a while, a number of other cities currently have zoning restrictions inhibiting the placement of manufactured homes. Senate Bill 6593 finally requires these remaining cities to allow manufactured homes as of the July 1st, 2005 date. If you own property within a city that currently does not allow manufactured homes and you are interested in beginning the process of applying for a building permit, please contact the building department and find out if you can start any preliminary process prior to the July 1st date. You may also wish to confirm whether the city will allow a formal building permit application to begin prior to the July 1st date.
